Creative Uses For Old Bicycle Tires

Bicycles have been around for more than a century, and during that time the tires on those bicycles have changed quite a bit. Bicycle tires are now made of different types of rubber, including latex, butyl, and carbon black. While many different types of bicycle tires are available on the market today, you can still put old bicycle tires to good use. This article will take a look at some creative ways to reuse old bicycle tires!

Planters

You can use old bicycle tires to make unique planters! Many creative people have used old bicycles and bicycle parts in their yard to add some flair. While you can repurpose many different items into planters, an old tire is one of the most popular. To turn an old bike tire into a planter:

  1. Cut the tire into two halves.
  2. Clean out all of the inner threads and rubber until all that is left inside is the hard plastic core.
  3. Drill a few holes across the top of both halves to allow drainage.
  4. Fill with soil and plant your favorite flowers!

These planters will look great near your front door or in your backyard.

Wall Hanger

If you have an old bicycle tire that is not in usable condition due to wear or tear, you can still put it to good use! Many people have used old bike tires as wall hangers for bicycles, birdhouses, planters, etc. To make a wall hanger out of an old tire, cut the tire in half using a sharp utility knife. Drill three holes across each half, two on the top and one on the bottom. Make these holes large enough for heavy-duty picture hooks or thick string to fit through (with some room for wiggle!). After drilling the holes, sand the edges of each half to ensure a safe and smooth finish. Then, hang away! It’s that easy!
