The History of Fall

As the leaves begin to change color and the air grows crisp, people worldwide know that fall is here. For many, this is a time to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family before the winter cold. But where did this tradition of autumnal activities come from? The answer may surprise you. It is believed that the first organized fall festival occurred in ancient Egypt over 4,000 years ago. The event was called the “Festival of Rejoicing” and served as a celebration of the harvest. People would gather to give thanks for a successful crop and enjoy feasts, music, and dance. As time went on, other cultures began to adopt similar traditions. The Roman Empire celebrated a festival called Pomona, which honored the goddess of fruit trees and gardens. In Asia, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated today and traditionally includes moon watching and eating moon cakes. In modern times, fall festivals have taken on many different forms. Halloween has become one of the most popular holidays in America, while in Europe, many towns and villages still hold Harvest Festivals to commemorate the end of the growing season. No matter what form they take, these festivals continue to provide a cherished opportunity to come together and enjoy the bounty of the autumn season.

Apple Picking

Fall

Fall is the perfect time to head outdoors and enjoy the crisp weather. One of the best ways to do this is by going apple picking. Not only is it a fun activity for the whole family, but it’s also a great way to get some fresh air and exercise. Plus, you’ll enjoy the fruits of your labor by taking home a basket of freshly picked apples. When choosing a place to go apple picking, check out local farms in your area. Many of them will have different varieties of apples, so you can try something new or stick with your favorites. Once you’ve found a farm that you like, all you need to do is head out and start picking! Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, as apples can be hard to reach. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the experience. Apple picking is a great way to spend a day outdoors and make lasting memories with your family or friends.
